What Gets Deleted?
When you delete your account, the following information is permanently removed:
- Account Information: Email, name, password, profile picture
- Expense Data: All expenses you created and participated in
- Group Data: Groups you created (if you're the only member)
- Personal Settings: Currency preferences, notification settings
- Contact Lists: Contacts you added to the app
- Payment History: Subscription and payment records
⚠️ Important Notice:
- This action is irreversible - You cannot recover your data after deletion
- Groups with other members - Your expenses will remain visible to other group members for their records, but your personal information will be anonymized
- Active subscriptions - Cancel your subscription before deletion to avoid future charges
- 30-day processing time - Complete deletion takes up to 30 days
How to Delete Your Account
Method 1: In-App Deletion (Recommended)
The fastest and easiest way to delete your account:
- Open the EquiShare app
- Go to Settings (tap your profile icon)
- Scroll down to Privacy & Data
- Tap Delete Account
- Review the deletion warning
- Enter your password to confirm
- Tap Delete My Account Permanently

Method 2: Email Request
If you cannot access the app, you can request deletion via email:

Deletion Timeline
What Happens After You Request Deletion:
Immediate (Day 0): Your account is deactivated and you can no longer log in
Within 24 hours: Active sessions are terminated across all devices
Within 7 days: Personal information is removed from production databases
Within 30 days: All data is permanently deleted from backup systems
Within 90 days: Data is removed from archived backups and logs
What Data May Be Retained?
We may retain certain limited information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes:
- Transaction Records: Required for tax and accounting purposes (typically 7 years)
- Legal Compliance: Data required by law enforcement or legal proceedings
- Fraud Prevention: Information necessary to prevent abuse of our Service
- Anonymized Analytics: Non-identifiable usage statistics
This retained information will not contain personal identifiers and cannot be used to identify you.
Before You Delete Your Account
Consider these alternatives:
- Export Your Data: Download all your expense records first (Settings → Export Data)
- Cancel Subscription: If you're concerned about costs, simply cancel your premium subscription and keep the free tier
- Take a Break: You can simply stop using the app without deleting - your data will remain secure
